Kitchen Table Issues

Energy Cost & Inflation

Ground zero for inflation is energy cost. The liberal war on fossil fuels is actually a war on the average person. Every aspect of the economy becomes more expensive when the cost of energy goes up. I fully support renewable energy but it simply isn't ready for large scale use. The oil companies make a .05 profit on a gallon of gas while the Michigan state tax is .03 cents a gallon. Democrats, led by Governor Whitmer, want to increase that tax to .45 cents a gallon. Imagine the cost to people and businesses state wide if that were to occur. This is compounded by that very same liberal leadership at the state level who, while pushing a green agenda, make functional nuclear energy virtually impossible through arbitrary regulations.

In Lansing I will continue to protect our community's families by advocating for a renewable solution, while in the meantime keeping energy prices affordable and realisitic.

Parental Rights

It doesnt take a village to raise a child, it takes a family. Sometimes it may be an atypical family, but it is a family nonetheless. It is political arrogance for people in government to claim the right to teach our children their social values. As a young man, recent college graduate, and being the son of two teachers, I have a unique and up close perspective of the radical ideologies that are being imposed on our school children. This isn't education, this is indoctrination. This is no indictment of teachers that are being forced by politicians to teach this material.

I am a firm believer that children and the values they are taught belong to the parents, not politicians. Our educators play an integral part of a child's development, however that should never outweigh the fact that children belong to parents, they are NOT the property of public education.

School Issues

While it is up to parents to instill values, public schools are vital in educating our children. Far too often, kids leave the school system without learning the basic essentials such as financial literacy, the importance of the trades, and undertsanding of real estate/property value. I will advocate that all students be required to take a financial literacy class in high school, so that they undersrand the basics of balancing a checkbook or how to pay bills. I will also push that the lucrative opportunities for career growth for the trades are promoted just as much as college is to our students, knowing that a one-size fits all approach does not work for students with a great diversity of interest.

While funding for Michigan schools has increased over the past decade, our teachers are still underpaid and are forced to spend money out of their own pockets to provide the best possible education for their students. If elected, I would propose a slush fund for teachers, which they can spent throughout a school year on their students. This would assure that taxpayer money is being put into meaningful parts of education while also assuring that these expenses are not coming out of teacher's wallets.

Foster Care Reform

Foster children do not vote. As such, they are ignored. The most vulnerable victims in society need an advocate and I intend to be that advocate. The long-term cost to society on every level is incredible but that is nothing compared to the long-term cost to the foster child. I plan to revamp the system in order to minimize damage as much as possible. You can read more about my Foster Care plan here.

Protecting the 2nd Amendment

As a lifelong bird hunter and skeet shooter, I know what an important role the responsible and law-abiding usage of guns mean to a majority of Americans. Currently, many on the left seem committed to stripping away our Second Amendment rights. The founding fathers very plainly stated the vital importance which gun ownership played in the very fabric of this nation on many occasions. To quote Richard Henry Lee “To preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of people always possess arms, and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them..."

When I am in Lansing I assure you that, I will protect every Michigander's right to bear arms and use them for sport or last-resort defense.

But the most important issue.... the one YOU care about!!!

I believe strongly that goverment should be representative of the people. And while I have my own convictions and opinions, as your Senator it would be my job to represent the will of the people and to get things done for you!! If there is a pressing issue facing our state or country which concerns you and feel that needs to be addressed in Lansing, please write to me below and I will keep your thoughts in mind as I continue to form my policy platform.
